The Last Week: Closing a Memorable Chapter in the Philippines

Final Demo Teaching Day

Today, like every other day, I headed to school, but with a bittersweet awareness that this would be my last day of teaching as part of the SEA-Teacher Batch 10 Program. For my final demo teaching, I taught three different classes: Grade 7, and Grade 11 STEM B and D. My lessons covered Introduction to Common Lab Equipment & Safety Rules, Mole Concept and Avogadro’s Number, and Calculating Molar Mass and Moles. This final demonstration was a necessary requirement for certification from the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO). Standing before my students one last time was a mix of pride and sadness, realizing how much I had learned and grown in these past weeks.

 Preparing for the Typhoon Alert

Today, an emergency alert was issued due to an incoming typhoon. Our classes were dismissed early, and my professor advised us to prepare food supplies. After school, I quickly headed to the market to stock up on essentials rice, eggs, and some fresh fruit. The urgency around town was palpable as everyone gathered supplies, adding to the unique experience of facing a typhoon alert firsthand.

A Quiet, Foggy Market Day

School remained closed due to the ongoing typhoon. With fog covering the city, my friend and I decided to explore the local market near our dorm. We strolled through its aisles, discovering interesting items, and snapped photos at every spot that caught our eye. The atmosphere of the fog-laden streets and bustling market was serene yet vibrant, offering us one last chance to enjoy the local ambiance despite the weather.

A Rainy Day of Reflection and Task Completion

The rain and fog lingered as the day began, casting a chilly calm over Baguio. From the dorm window, the city appeared beautifully blurred, misty winds sweeping gently through the streets. I stayed in the dorm, cozy yet reflective, and took the chance to complete my final tasks before returning to Indonesia. The rain provided the perfect backdrop for introspection as I wrapped up my blog and organized my notes, taking in the quietude of this final stretch of my SEA-Teacher journey.

Farewell Gathering and Final Reflections

Today, I met with Mam Sheila, who gave me heartfelt words of wisdom before my journey back home. She ensured that I had finished all assignments, checked my belongings, and discussed our final arrangements to the airport. Later, we shared a lovely, yet emotional, farewell meal with Mam Faith and Mam Stephanie at Jollibee. Between the laughter and shared memories, I felt an immense appreciation for the kindness I had received during my stay in the Philippines. It was a wonderful, if bittersweet, day filled with gratitude and farewells.

Last Day: The Bittersweet Farewell

The day before my departure. I find it hard to put my feelings into words leaving the Philippines tomorrow brings a mixture of sadness and longing. I wish I could stay longer to make more memories with my new friends, yet I know that all encounters must end with farewells. I will carry these memories and friendships in my heart, hoping that one day, our paths will cross again.

This last week marks the end of an unforgettable chapter. The experiences, lessons, and friendships I’ve gathered will always remain as cherished memories, filling me with gratitude and inspiration as I move forward.
