CURICULUM

The curriculum implemented at SLU BEDS High School Department followed the K to 12 (K-12) system, which was adopted nationally in the Philippines. This curriculum was designed to equip students with knowledge and skills aligned with global developments. At the Junior High School level, students underwent four years of education, consisting of Grades 7, 8, 9, and 10. After completing Junior High School, students proceeded to Senior High School, which spanned two years in Grades 11 and 12. At this level, SLU BEDS High School offered several specialized programs, namely:

  1. STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) for students interested in science and technology fields.
  2. ABM (Accountancy, Business, and Management) for students aiming to focus on business and management.
  3. HUMSS (Humanities and Social Sciences) for students inclined towards humanities and social sciences.

The school schedule started at 7:40 AM and ended at 2:30 PM, providing students with an intensive and comprehensive learning experience. The K-12 curriculum was designed not only to prepare students for higher education but also to ensure they were ready to enter the workforce or engage in entrepreneurship after graduation.

TEACHING PLAN RELATED TO MY MAJOR

As a participant in the SEA-Teacher program Batch 10, I carried out this program from October 1 to October 27, 2024, at Saint Louis University Basic Education School. During this program, I was guided by my mentor, Sir Ryan Francis P. Dangiw, and my cooperating teacher, Sir Jake T. Quesada, who provided direction and guidance throughout the process.

In the first week, I participated in orientation and classroom observation in five different classes: 11 STEM A, 11 STEM B, 11 STEM C, 11 STEM D, and 11 STEM E. During the observation, I took notes on all activities conducted by the teacher, including how they explained the material, the rules to be followed during the teaching and learning process, and other aspects related to classroom management and learning processes.

In the second week, I worked as a teaching assistant. My task was to help supervise exams in two classes, Grade 11 and Grade 12. This experience gave me the opportunity to gain deeper insight into the classroom dynamics during the evaluation period.

In the third week, I was given the opportunity to teach the class directly. Before teaching, I first prepared a lesson plan that was aligned with the learning topics. In preparing the lesson plan, I received assistance from my mentor and made corrections with my cooperating teacher to improve and adapt it to the needs of the class. The main topics I taught included:

  1. Introduction to Common Lab Equipment and Safety Rules
  2. Introduction to Stoichiometry
  3. More on Stoichiometry
  4. The Gas Law

I created a total of three weekly  lesson plan and four daily lesson plans for final demo in four different classes.
